In kids ministry, it's important to start with a focus on simplicity and humility. Connect with kids, share the Gospel, and be a faithful steward of resources. Listen to kids and create a safe space for them to feel heard and seen.
“The goal in the beginning is not to do well, but to begin.” - John Maxwell
Effective teaching and presentation strategies for Kids Ministry leaders includes interactive and visual aids, experiential and participatory elements, and connecting with kids. Incorporate these strategies into your practice to engage and inspire young minds.
Teaching methods for engaging kids in church:
EPIC is a teaching method for engaging and connecting with kids using experiential, participatory, and image-driven approaches. Visual aids enhance kids’ understanding of the concepts you are teaching. The goal is to connect with kids through the teaching process.
Connecting with Children is a leader training about listening to kids and learning how to better connect with them so they know that you care. When adults can learn to be better listeners to kids, kids will be better communicators with adults.
The Gospel for Children is a series on how to share the Gospel with kids, explaining key elements and ways to present to them. This series offers strategies to help kids understand and grow in their faith.
When sharing the Gospel with kids, we must be honest about sin and that the penalty for sin is death, while also sharing the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ. We must emphasize their need to trust in God's message and not rely on their personal efforts to save them, while also realizing that it is God who will do the work of salvation in them not us. Trust me, kids can understand the Gospel. We need to present it clearly and allow God to do the work.
