Connecting with children means leading by example with clear boundaries, even when those choices are not popular. It also means ditching sarcasm, respecting kids' fragile feelings, and validating their emotions without making them feel foolish. Finally, we must look at every student through the lens of optimism, seeing the incredible potential in kids who have big behavior or high energy.
