Talking About God vs. Talking To God | Philippians 3:7-11

Mister Brown

One night at bedtime, I was struck with two thoughts. First, I thought about how I hadn’t posted to Proclaim Ministries Instagram in a while. Second, I remembered that I had not done my PB&J for the day, also known as prayer, reading the Bible, and journaling. These two thoughts made me realize that I have the privilege to talk about God (posting to Instagram) and to talk to God (doing my PB&J).

Talking about God gives glory to God and we can honor God with what we talk about. However, talking to God should come before that because it helps us to know Him better. When we know God, we can talk about God.

Paul said it best in Philippians 3:7-11 “But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith — that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.”

Ultimately, my goal is to know God better so that when I talk about Him it’s an overflow of my time with Him. Tell me what you think.
