People in the Bible Were Just Like You! | James 1:22

The people in the Bible were not all that great. To say they had problems is an understatement. I recently did a Walk Through the Bible event for families. We learned 77 hand signs to help remember the major people and events in the Old Testament. It was great.

Doing this event gave me hope. Just like the people in the Bible weren’t perfect, we aren’t perfect either. But the people in the Bible served a great God and we do too. God used them and He can use us even though we are all fallen humans and not qualified to serve God.

I like this saying, “Knowing what to do must be translated into doing what you know.” This means that knowing the facts must translate into us doing what we know. James 1:22 says, “But be doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” When the Bible says to do something, we should do it. We should obey God and trust Him for the results.

We are all fallen humans who serve a great God. Abraham and David were examples of this. They are considered godly men, but they made some big mistakes. But God loves us even when we make mistakes. 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

The people in the Old Testament were messed up and so are we. We all fall short of the glory of God, but He forgives us. God is full of greatness, love, and patience. He is the God of frail broken people. Psalm 103:13-14 says, “As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him. For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust.”

Keep seeking after our great God even when you make mistakes. Be doers of the Word and not hearers only. He has shown Himself to be faithful over and over again.

“Helping you connect faith and life.”
