Stop Worrying so Much | One Bible Passage and One Personal Story to Help You | Matthew 6:25-34

Mister Brown

How are you doing these days? Are your thoughts racked with worry? Do you lose sleep over the things that you worry about? I want to share a Bible passage from Matthew 6:25-34 and a personal story to help you to stop worrying and start trusting more.

Matthew 6:25-34 is part of Jesus’s sermon on the mount. The passage in Matthew points to God as the source of all things. Everything comes from God and He sees us as more important than even the birds of the sky. Jesus is telling us that we don’t need to worry because God will take care of us. Worrying doesn’t add anything to our lives

I recently made a video about a sermon by Tony Evans. Tony Evans says, “You only have one source. Everything else is a resource.” This is the point of Matthew 6:25-34. The source is God and nothing else can provide us with what we really need.

James 1:17 says, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.”

God can certainly use resources to fulfill our needs, but we must not put our faith in those things. God is the one who supplies the resources. And it’s no wonder we worry when we put our faith in resources instead of in the source. Resources don’t have what it takes to take care of our needs on their own, only God does.

If we keep in mind that God is the source and everything else is a resource, the result will be less worrying. We won’t look to things to fulfill us. We will look to the ultimate source, God.

Right before I started Proclaim Ministries, I had just lost my job. I had been working in a different ministry. I knew that I wanted to start my own ministry, but I didn’t have any resources to get going. No computer. No money. I was so worried and stressed out during that time.

Someone I knew invited me to his office one day. When I got there, he wasn’t able to meet with me after all, but he had left something for me. I found a letter and a computer. He had given me a brand new computer to start Proclaim Ministries and it was a gift. I didn’t have to pay for it! I was shocked.

That memory reminds me of how God is the source of all our needs and He uses all kinds of resources to help us. I had been so worried about what I was going to do instead of trusting God and His provision. In that situation, God taught me to stop worrying and to start trusting.

Romans 11:36 “For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.” It’s all about God. All things come from God, God works through us, and all glory goes back to God.

Here’s your challenge: Don’t worry. Trust God. Focus on the source.
