The Worst Deception Is Self-Deception
Twenty years ago I had a license plate that said “Trust God.” The other day while doing pull-ups, I noticed that old Wisconsin license plate hanging above me. The renewal date said January 2006. It stopped me in my tracks. Back then I was in a completely different place in life. Different city. Different season. Different mindset.
I believed in God, but if I’m honest, I was often sowing to the flesh instead of the Spirit.
In Galatians 6:7–8 the Bible says: “Do not be deceived. God is not mocked. Whatever a man sows, that will he also reap.” Looking back helped me see something important. The worst deception isn’t someone lying to us. It’s when we deceive ourselves.
In this video, I reflect on what that old license plate reminded me about growth, choices, and what we are planting in our lives today.
Watch now and ask yourself: What seeds am I sowing?
Discuss it with your family or your ministry group.
Questions for personal reflection:
What does it mean to “sow to the flesh” versus “sow to the Spirit” in everyday life?
Why do you think self-deception can be the most dangerous kind of deception?
Looking back 10–20 years, what changes do you see in your spiritual growth?
What are some small seeds someone can start planting today that lead to spiritual growth?
